Compact, lightweight upright bicycle trailers enable a convenient, environmentally-friendly shopping experience eliminating the need for a car (and grocery cart for that matter).

These are bicycle trailers that you can easily cycle to the store with and, if the shop is a bicycle-friendly retailer, conveniently and securely park directly in front of. Then, due to their small size, you can detach the trailer from the bike and actually take it into the store with you and use it in place of a grocery cart to buy your groceries.

Shopping trailers are about the same width as a regular shopping cart, fit through the checkout counter aisle and can hold more than a week's worth of supplies for singles, couples and small families.

After each item is scanned at the checkout, it is placed in the trailer. You can additionally elect to bring your own re-usable cloth (cotton or canvas) shopping bags along to cut down on the use of plastic bags. After the trailer is packed, you simply wheel it out of store.

Outside there is no unloading the shopping cart: you simply re-attach the trailer to the back of your bicycle and ride home with the trailer and your grocercies in tow. This way, you also usually avoid having to wait in a line of cars just to exit the parking lot on busy weekends.

At home, depending on your storage space and frequency of use, the trailer is again detached from the bicycle, and if desired, brought directly into the kitchen where its contents are unpacked. Your groceries can then go directly into your fridge, cupboards or pantry.

Using a car to do your food- and other shopping requires a lot more carrying and transfering of the grocery bags by hand (from the checkout aisle to the shopping cart, from the cart to the car and from the car to the kitchen). A shopping trailer for your bicycle makes this process easier, something that's of interest to young and old alike.

To transport larger items or loads, like more than a week's shopping for the family, an open or enclosed cargo trailer is recommended.
