Bike Trailers
Pet Trailers
For A Man's Best Friend
While you can certainly use a child's bike trailer or single-wheel touring trailer to transport your pet, the acquisition or construction of a purpose-built pet bike trailer will is worth considering, especially if you don't have children.
Pet bike trailers can be constructed of the same cloth material as found on bike trailers for designed for carrying children, or will use a hardshell plastic kennel design, or a metal cage or combination of these. Soft-cloth cages provide for zippers to open and close the compartment. Kennels and cages can usually be locked.

A good quality softshell bike trailer for pets will provide access at the rear of the trailer to make it easier for the animal to climb in and have openings at the front and/or top secured using velco or a zipper for your pet to see forward and around while you cycle.

Smaller sized pets can of course be easily and safely transported using a basket mounted at front or rear of any city bike or a cage mounted in place of a basket on the back of a trike or upfront on a short john cargo bicycle, as pictured above.
Bicycle sidecars also provide an alternative to bike trailers for transporting pets.
